The RAF Grimsby Exhibition Memorial Day is the most special day of the year for me, as since 1999 this day is for the Veterans of RAF Grimsby and on a whole any veteran of the RAF.
We gather at the Waltham Windmill to start the day and visit various locations which include the former home of RAF Grimsby between Holton Le Clay & Waltham, with a chance to relax at either a public house named after one of RAF Grimsby’s Lancaster’s ‘The Jug & Bottle’ or at the RAFA Grimsby/Cleethorpes, where a meal is provided. Then comes the Grand appearance of the BBMF’s Avro Lancaster PA474 for 3 passes of the location which we are to salute RAF Grimsby and Bomber Command as a whole.
We finish the day off back at the former home of RAF Grimsby were a Memorial has been erected in the memory of 100 Squadron for a Service of Remembrance to 142, 100 and 550 Squadrons (RAF) who flew from the aerodrome, with on occasion an appearance of 100 Squadron in the present day flying their BAE Hawk T1.
A most memorable day is always had by all...
